Many homeowners are unaware that their home was constructed with a centralized in-home pest control system and have little understanding of what it provides.
The first centralized in-home pest control system was pioneered by TAEXX Systems and was originally called TUBES IN THE WALL® because that is exactly what it is. It is a system of perforated tubes is included in the walls throughout your home so that pesticidal chemicals can be injected with the force of air from ports located on the exterior of your home.
If your home was built before, say 1990, it is unlikely your home has this system. Home builders didn’t construct homes with the systems before then and they are most often built into the walls during construction as it is the most cost-efficient way to do it. However, an in-home pest system can be added to an existing structure.
The chief advantage of having a system such as this in your home is that your pest control service can be delivered to the interior of your home – into the wall voids where most pests retreat and nest – without scheduling time to enter your home while you are there.
Does my home have a system??
If you don’t know whether or not your home has this system, and it is not uncommon for this information to be overlooked in the resale of a home, there is an easy way to find out. Look around the exterior of your home for a covered port as you can see in this photo. There may be two, three, four, or even five of them based on the total square footage of your home. You will find them two to three feet off the ground. If you are still not sure, call Heath Pest Control and we’d be happy to inspect your home and find the answer.
Heath Pest Control recommends and routinely provides treatment inside and outside your home on the initial visit. Whether you have a centralized system or not, we address the kitchen, bathrooms, doors, windows, closets, baseboards, outlets and plumbing and cabinet voids – all places where pests often dwell.
Then, with a centralized in-home pest system, we return every 3 months for an exterior only treatment of eaves, windows, soil, and bushes, along with the in-home treatment from the exterior ports.
Advantages of the Centralized In-Home Pest Control System
- Before you see the first signs or hints of a rodent or termite infestation, it is likely they have neem living it up inside the walls or wall voids for some time, breeding, nesting, and munching on wires. In-wall systems get there to address this problem before you even know they are there!
- In-wall systems can be more effective and less intrusive than the traditional spray treatments because the chemicals stay within the voids, last longer and create a strong barrier kills the pests, such as ants, termites or rates, in the one place that they like to hide and breed – house walls!
- As chemicals are injected into the wall, they won’t get into contact with their kids and pets. Any pesticide running through the tubing will never make it through your drywall. Traditional pesticide spraying exposes your home to just as many (if not more) chemicals than tube systems.
- Traditional interior pest control treatments require you to be home and on alert when servicing takes place, or you may even have to leave your home all together while it’s fumigated. In-wall pest control tubes allow a pest control professional to refill your system from the outside service port. This means your home stays pest-free without you ever knowing someone has come to refuel your system with chemicals.
- Pest problems are easily controlled before they can become severe by increasing the externally applied treatments through the ports.
Even with centralized in-wall injection pest control, homeowners need regular pest control treatments on the exterior of their homes. An in-wall pest system is designed to hit target locations within the walls, instead of covering it in pesticides As the centralized in-home pest control system doesn’t cover every inch of the property. So, remember that resilient pests, like cockroaches, termites, and rodents, might find another way into your home. After all, the walls are just one way for sneaky pests to enter the house.
Heath Pest Control professionals are experienced with a variety of systems and can advise you on the best level and mix of treatments to protect your home, with or without the use of a centralized in-home pest control system.
